Chapter 9
Chapter 9 gave me a broad overview of ecommerce and security practices. I am used to buying online; it is my favorite way to make purchases. However, I was not familiar with all that online retailing entails. Dotcom refers to web-only businesses, and Brick and Clicks are businesses that sell online and in-store goods. Some companies allow users to be part of the C2C (Consumer to Consumer) business model, by enabling them to sell goods or services using their online portal. Some of these companies are Amazon, Craigslist, and Etsy.
Something that I use as a part of my day-to-day is my digital wallet. Nevertheless, I was not familiar with the fact that both parties needed compatible digital wallets. PayPal was the first widely recognized. The one I use is Apple Pay, which utilizes Near Field Communication (NFC) chips when paying at physical terminals. This chapter also covered some of the challenges that businesses face in the international market, including the language barriers. Some companies create webpages according to the country; this allows them to provide customers with better translations called “localization”.
